HOW IT ALL BEGAN

It started at our organ music club. Most of the members were seniors, and one day, finding ourselves with some unexpected downtime, we decided to share a little about our backgrounds.

The stories that emerged were astonishing. One quiet gentleman was a World War II veteran who had been awarded the Victoria Cross for heroically saving seven soldiers. A soft-spoken grandmother revealed she had been an operating room nurse instrumental in developing the procedure to save "blue babies" – infants born with oxygen deprivation. Another member had been a pioneer in the use of hypnosis, rather than anaesthesia, for dental surgery.

That was the day we realized that everyone has a life story.

It is easy to see people only as they are now – perhaps frail or elderly – without realizing they were once vibrant, adventurous, and career-driven. We Canadians are sometimes humble and self-effacing about our lives; we don’t brag. There are children who don’t know about their ancestors’ accomplishments. But when you ask someone about their past, look at photos, and speak to their colleagues and friends, the whole person emerges – a person whose story is worth telling.

Inspired by this, Paul and I began creating life story videos. We immersed ourselves in every project, sifting through hundreds of images and using restoration techniques to salvage even the most damaged photos. We combined personal music, voice-overs, and special effects to craft narratives that showed the evolution of a human being.

The response was profound. Clients were often wide-eyed, seeing their own lives told with such beauty and respect. Widows and widowers told us they watched the videos again and again, feeling as though their partners had been brought back to life. Families were grateful to preserve these legacies so that children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren could truly know the loved one who had passed.

As our work evolved, we began creating printed memoir books alongside video stories. These books are crafted with care and love, shaped into engaging chapters that invite reading and reflection, and enriched with treasured details such as photographs, reproduced handwritten notes, and meaningful personal documents.

Paul and I believe there is nothing more meaningful than preserving these memories – because every life has a story worth telling.
